*Sitting on a bench in the park, Kotori was making full use of such an unseasonably pleasant day. With a sketchpad in her lap, she had been drawing up a few design ideas for outfits she'd like to make.
As she drew, a small commotion caught her attention. Not far from her, two young children were stood at the base of a tree, trying to shake it or jump up at the branches, trying to grab them. As she turned her attention to the branches, she could see a ball stuck in it. It was too high up for the children to reach, and their attempts at shaking the tree wasn't even budging it.
She contemplated going over to help, but even she wouldn't be able to reach the branches or shake the tree hard enough to loosen the ball.
Then it hit her, she didn't even need to do that to get the ball down for them.
From where she was sat, she focused her gaze on the ball. Slowly and gently, she used her telekinetic power to nudge the ball slightly. She kept nudging it just a bit, until the ball fell from the branches. The children, believing that the ball had fallen by itself, collected it and ran off to carry on playing their game.
Kotori smiled as she watched them run off, happy that she could help them, but also proud that she was now able to control her ability enough that she had some control on how she moved things. The training she had been receiving from SAI was really helping.*

::A tall older man stops in front of you. He's well dressed with green-ish hair, leaning on a cane... that is either a stylized heart or a stylized fly.::
I take it that was you, just now?
no subject
What do you mean...?
*There's no way he noticed, right?*
no subject
The ball in the tree.
no subject
... you noticed that?
*She was sure she had been discreet enough for no-one to notice, but she must of not been as discreet as she thought.*
no subject
It's my job to notice people doing things. And you were plenty discreet, if you were thinking that.
I'm just perceptive.
no subject
*Kotori falls into an awkward silence for a moment, not really sure what to say to him.
That is, until she realised something.*
Weren't you the Mayor of Heartland City?
Mr. Heartland, right?
no subject
::Ah. Yes. Right.::
Yes. Though it is a bit hard to be the mayor of a city with a population of 0, my dear.
no subject
*Kotori's eyes widen, before she looks away with a much more somber look on her face.*
...yes. I know.
*Slowly she raised her hand up to the heart-shaped locket that she wore around her neck, gently taking hold of it.*
I used to live there.
I was one of the few survivors who managed to escape.
no subject
... And thank goodness you did. We need people who can help rebuild it once we're allowed to go back. And people who remember the horrors that happened there.
no subject
*The grip on her locket becomes a little tighter as a knot builded in her stomach.
Rebuilding the city was a noble idea, but almost everyone from that city was gone and those that remained were so few... plus they still don't know who attacked, and whether they'd just do it again.*
... I don't think I could ever go back.
no subject
I'll admit I hadn't been expecting that. But, something should be done. Heartland doesn't deserve to be a tomb forever.
no subject
Even if those of us who originally survived don't go back, it would be nice to at least see the city thrive again, to give others a chance to live in and experience Heartland.
I count myself lucky that I was at least able to grow up there.
But I don't think it's possible until it's found out who attacked the city and why.

::Leans a bit on his cane.::
Ah yes. That remains the Riddle wrapped in a Mystery inside an Enigma... And no one seems to be sure who is responsible for it still...
Then again, the national government seems quite comfortable just sweeping the whole affair under the rug.
no subject
Those of us who survived deserve to at least know why we had to lose our homes. Why we had to lose our friends and family.
I want to know why I had to lose my mom.
But I'm not sure we'll ever get to know the answer!
*She takes a deep breath to calm herself down a bit, wiping away tears that were forming in her eyes.*
...I'm sorry. It's still a difficult subject to talk about.
no subject
Which is what makes it so important to talk about at the end of the day.
no subject
*Kotori nods a little.*
Yes. You're right.
I talk about it sometimes, with the people I live with now. They're the people I was able to escape with. My boyfriend's sister and grandmother. I've known them for a long time, so they're just like family to me. I'm appreciative that I still have them and my boyfriend too.
But at the end of the day we have to just keep pushing forward in order to carry on with our lives.
*She gently moves her hands so she's cupping the heart locket in them.*
My mom gave me this only a few days before the attack.
It was simply by chance.
She was originally going to give it to me for my 18th birthday, but instead she gave it to me early because it went well with a dress I was making.
Other than photos I have of her on my D-Pad, this locket is the only thing I really have left of her. Losing her hurt the most, but I feel if I always have this locket with me, then she is with me.
no subject
I'm sorry for your loss. Though I have a meeting I need to attend to soon, Miss...
::Pulls out an old fashioned wind up watch.::
no subject
*She feels kind of bad, just randomly pouring out her heart to him like that.*
I'll let you go on your way.
no subject
It's not a bother. A good politician listens to his constituents. Another time, perhaps?
::Places it back in his pocket.::
no subject
Those of us from Heartland should stick together after all.
Thank you for listening.
no subject
::Walks off giving one last polite answer.::
Like I said, not a trouble at all.
